Unable to support smart devices

I can see there are commonly issues with the sky max hub and smart devices but wonder is anyone has a solution?

This is a new contract which means I am tied in for 2 years. Sky have been completely incompetent from the outset (cancelled the newly set up contract without explanation then set up 2 contracts instead of one, couldn't cancel the additional contract, cancel the cancellation of my existing provider, basically, at no point did anything properly) and now I learn that the hub cannot even support smart devices?! Anyone got a work around? It's is not fast, it is not reliable and it is pointless if it can't manage the many, many smart devices in my home! Any help greatly appreciated...

You don't think it might be a bit of an oversight for Sky not to have spotted this since the  Max Hub was released in July 2023?

The Max Hub can provide any device with WiFi.

Typically the issue is that when setting up a 2.4Ghz-only device, the hardware hosting the devices control app will connected to a 5Ghz signal.

A potential work-around is to temporarily disable the 5Ghz band through the Hub settings in the My Sky app.

It may also be necessary to reduce the wireless encryption level from WPA3-T to WPA2-PSK.

Re: Unable to support smart devices

Do I think it would be an oversight?
Well, I think it was an oversight to cancel part of a new contract I had taken out without informing me, I think it was an oversight to set up two contracts and direct debits simultaneously for the same property, I think it was an oversight to cancel the cancellation of my previous contract with another company leaving me with a full month overlap to pay and I think it was an oversight to send the router out on the same day the engineer was booked so that it arrived the day after the engineer came to install it. If the question is do I think it is likely that this oversight exists, on balance of evidence (plus is is a documented issue with these hubs, I now learn) I will say yes, I think Sky are very, very likely to make oversights.

I can make connections but the router drops the connections.

I have already reduced the level of security and as I say, the problem isn't connecting, it is retaining the connection. This was not a problem previously and the common denominator is the hub so I was looking to see if anyone had identified work arounds for the problem.

Re: Unable to support smart devices

@Nosbig22 If affordable and acceptable to you, I suggest using your own network equipment.

I have come to the realisation that some customers will only use ISP supplied equipment, which varies in quality, strength and features. This being the case, customers might best stick with the ISP whose equipment works for them, but might mean missing out on cheaper deals.
