Hi there,
I'm looking for some help with my set up with tp link ac1200 modem router and the Sky Q router.
I originally bought the ac1200 to completely replace the sky q router, but soon found out that wasn't possible once it arrived, so I ended up setting it up as a wireless router only and linked it with the sky q router.
After a little bit of playing around I have got it up and running through the Sky router to the ac1200 and also the ac750 extender all working.
my problem I seem to have is now I have 5 connections to choose from when searching for the network connections, there's the original sky router connection, 2.4ghz + 5.0ghz from the ac1200, also two for the extension up stairs. I understand that I should be connecting to the extension to upstairs devices and use the ac1200 connections for the rest of the house. But is there a way of disconnecting the original sky router connection from showing when searching? I try to disable the wireless for both ghz in the sky router settings, but it still seems to show up.
also having some trouble with speeds. I did some speed tests on both 2.4 (3.5mbps) and 5.0ghz (174mbps) when surely both should be higher?
any help would be appreciated as I've just spent this money to resolve the issue and it's not that much better then when I was just using the extender with the sky router.
thanks

Find out more@jamesdeeguthrie if you have Sky Q mini tv boxes these require Sky wifi to connect so if you turn off the wifi on the hub the main Q box's hot spot will be used. Your options are to leave the Sky wifi on and try to manage the channels so the two systems dont interfere or connect your Q boxes by ethernet and turn off their wifi.
There is nothing you can do about the 2.4GHz band as the boxes the channels use cannot be controlled. However by default the Q boxes use ch 36 to 52 in the 5GHz band if you can set your TP-Link units to use a different range then do so if you can't you can set the Sky system to use a reduced channel range which is easiest done on the hub. Instead of ch36 80MHZ you can choose ch36 40MHz which will use ch36 to Ch44 or ch44 40MHz which covers ch44 to ch52. Hopefully you can persuade your other systems not to use the same range.

Hi Chrisee,
thank you for your speedy reply.
We did have sky q boxes but we don't have them anymore, just the broadband so that shouldn't be an issue.
I've just had a look on the tp link router settings and yes I can change the channels! Thank you for that. So I'm I best to change them on both the sky and tp link routers so they don't interfere with eachother? Set the mhz lower on the sky routers?
sorry I'm pretty new to all this and I'm surprised I've got this far so far! 😂😂
thanks you again for your help, it's very appreciated.
