Terrible internet

The connection range of the router is terrible. I'm in the room next to the router and the connection drops or puts me in a 2.4ghz bandwidth. Even when sat in the same room as the internet it is that slow I have to use my mobile data rather than the internet. I am aware the lines I am currently on are copper but my neighbours have full fibre or at least fibre. My kids are studying for college and university and constantly have internet issues.
