Temporary router while waiting for sky engineer

No broadband available from my sky Q router, so not only do the sky mini boxes not work, and a lot of functionality lost on main TV, but also have lost WiFi on tablets and laptop. Sky on line did not diagnose problem, on phone after various tests router suspected as faulty.

Sky engineer booked for 5 days time.

As a temporary measure, can I install a temporary router pending the engineer's visit? I appreciate Sky Q and repeaters may not work as they should, but at least we would have WiFi back, and presumably the main TV would work to some degree as now.

Re: Temporary router while waiting for sky engineer

Find "Sky (MER)_VDSL" from the ISP list in the Internet Connection Setup page. Enter the following details below:

Username: abcdefgh@skydsl

Password: 1234567890abcdef

That should get it to connect. If it doesn't automatically connect, you may need to manually connect. I think this is done on Advanced > Network > Internet Settings. There's a Disconnect/Connect option that you can click on. I had to do that when setting up a VR600. It wouldn't automatically connect for some reason.

I have superfast. At present I am using my phone on data. I cannot access the WiFi router. On the MySky app, it shows as 61 Mbps.

@Modelfier do you have a laptop/PC that you could plug in to the router by ethernet cable to let you get into the settings as maybe the wireless settings have been switched off in the router

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

@Laing1 , frustratingly my iPad can see my iPhone as a hot spot, but says it will not connect - even though I have followed online advice. My windows 11 laptop will also not play.

@cookiemonsteruk  ,

I have had a shot at connecting a TP-Link Archer VAR400 router. Still no internet connection, but WiFi is working, and I am attaching pictures showing what I have. Clearly the internet settings are wrong. Can you advise what I should change?

Re: Temporary router while waiting for sky engineer

Bingo! @angerfist122 . The q box has been connected, too. So far the Home Screen still says it is not connected to the internet, but I imagine it will sort itself out. Can't play with it until Mrs a has finished watching Father  Brown.

To be honest, the top priority was for WiFi for the tablets and laptop. Now means I can book transfers for an up coming holiday whilst keeping an eye on the bank account. I am a very happy bunny. TV can always be run on tablets and the laptop through Sky Go.

Plan is to stick with the Sky router, after it's been replaced. Means that Sky can do their diagnostic thing if they need to. Meantime we will have a sorted back up router should the Sky one ever go down again. This episode has made me realise how vital WiFi is.
