Hi,
I'm currently on sky superfast broadband 60mb connection,I looked into going up to ultrafast 144mb and started the process of ordering it.
However it asked me to select an installation date?
Why is an engineer required?
Thank you.

The only difference will that the new phone socket will be on the rear of the sr204 g.fast modem router. Other than that you should be able to use any existing phone with a bt type phone jack on it for internet calls

Tried to the check on the bt site you linked to wouldn't work with my address.
I live in a flat in a converted building so if I need extra work done to get ultrafast 144mb is that more haste to do than if I live in a house with my door opening on to the street ?

Best contact sky for your options as your address would be linked to their own availability checker
If the flat is part of a Multiple dwelling unit then other work required may include MDU drop boxes above all flat doors
But that work would be carried by openreach as part of the installation. The only thing you would need to do would be to ask permission from any letting agent/management agency

Ok thanks so might better off waiting till everyone needs the work doing when bt have finished upgrading the network.

Superfast fttc for existing customers will still be available for some time . After 50% of connections from a given exchange have been upgraded to fttp openreach will stop selling fttc so if someone moves into another flat they will be provisioned with fttp and usually anyone changing isp's would be provisioned as well .
Just wondering why your address isn't showing. You could try the checker again and in the top left click the 3 horizontal lines and change to the option to use your phone number and see if that brings up your address details and post that info

Just either says this isn't a bt phone line (it's with sky) or it won't process my address like it's waiting for me to enter it in the correct way but I've tried multiple ways of putting it in. I think it's cos it's an apartment 109 then building name etc I dunno.
Update got it to work some how

Appears to be ultrafast 150Mbps via g.fast .
That means that the line will still go to your mastersocket via existing copper cabling. Openreach will need to change the faceplate of the master to a g.fast one so thats why the need access. So there is no having to bring fibre to the premises and no need for an ont to be installed

Thanks so does that mean I'll be able to use my existing phone?
