Stuttering on Android / ChromeOS devices

Hi!

I have had Sky Full Fibre 500 running on the Max Hub for over a month.

I have 4 devices that constantly have weak connections and some stuttering. My partners work chromebook is particularly bad and her googlemeet meetings can be awful in quality with full dropouts. The other devices that are struggling are an Android phone and my LGTV. All other devices we connect to the hub have great connections, including 2 macbooks, PS5, iPhone 16 etc. Worth noting that my partner's chromebook is actually the closest device to the physical router - so signal shouldn't be a problem - yet it states weak signal on the device.

I've tried to access the setting in the MySky app to see if I can change, or even split out the bands, but my Sky Max Hub does not appear in my product settings page, so can't access them. This is a slightly separate problem but means I'm struggling to fix the first.

Does anyone know why the Android / Chromebook devices might be struggling with connecting / stuttering?

@Mikese

They all support newer WiFi standards so I don't see why there would be an issue with those specific devices.

Do they still have issues even when you stand right next to the hub with them?

To be honest, it doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference where the devices are physically. Also not being able to access the hub's settings is making it harder to diagnose.

@Mikese you cannot simply change the wifi settings on the Sky max hub, what settings you can change are in the My Sky app which had a glitch this morning but is now back up. You can find limited information in the hub's web interface (192.168.0.1 user=admin password is the default wifi password on the base) but you can only change a few settings.

Installing WiFi Analyzer on an Android phone would allow you to see signal strength and channel of all networks in range. Which is useful way to see if there is interference. Also look for other wireless devices close to the problem devices as those can cause interference in the 2.4GHz band but not show up on wifi devices.

Re: Stuttering on Android / ChromeOS devices

I have actually just replaced the Sky Max hub with an Asus AX58 that I had from when I was on Virgin Media. The signal is perfect now across the house and the issues have disappeared, so will just box the Sky Max hub and leave the Asus in place.

@Mikese sounds sensible you will need the Sky hub to be connected if you report faults as it runs Sky's diagnostic suite.
