@Redbaron165 thanks for this advice. I'll work through your process and come back with my findings.

A sync speed doesn't show throughput and that's what we contract for isn't it? I wouldn't consider 12Mbps acceptable for a single connected device over Ethernet and all other connections off under a 40Mbps contract, should be minimum of 33Mbps

So, I think I have worked out part of my issue. My Sky Q boxes are all connected by Ethernet.
And they are all 10/100.
So thats a bottle neck right there. I'll set them to wifi and see if that ramps things up a bit. Annoying as I have ethernet so it's stupid not being able to use it.

This is why im leaving sky
their speeds show way higher than any other speed checker
We had tons of trouble woth speeds ,sky sent out an engineer who replaced the wire that came from inside our front door to the socket plus the socket claiming that was the problem(please bear in mind we hadnt touched a thing since it was sorted by the last engineer) and told us it was fine now. but still slow speeds terrible phone line and like i said totally different speeds on sky test compared to other tests
Sky youve gone down hill, As a "diamond" member i expect better
Plus all this stupid sky vip stuff that is now use to me.
oh well im off mid December see ya sky

Find out more@Jenn1fer1 You will find the same speed differences with other providers aswell, providers will show your line access speed which is the speed the router is connecting to the cabinet/exchange, speed tests show the throughout to your device and that will always be slower due to unavoidable transmission overheads, if your using WiFi it can be significantly lower.

I would strongly disagree with you. A little time since you posted this and just read, but your response is not helpful. Sky's own speed test is purely to the cabinet and they will always give you a result for the local area connection speed, as it allows them to report they are meeting their contractual requirement. I was only getting less than 20% of my contracted speed (5-8mbs) and every test from my PC confirmed that. Sky did their "own" test and stated I was getting the contracted 48mbs. Absolute poppycock. After 2weeks of fighting with Sky they eventually arranged for a Open reach engineer to visit. They found a line fault in the street and in the line connection to my BT box in the house. So Sky are avoiding their responsibilities. It's not "overheads" as you would only expect a loss of a few %. Sky has full visibility of my line all the way up to my firewall, so they know there's an issue yet they will continue to state they are meeting their contractual requirement. What really annoys me is that I'm paying them an additional £5 per month for Broadband Boost - it's a poor business practice and I'm off as I can't abide dishonesty that I have to pay for.

please note I do not work for Sky and wouldn't consider a job offer, as I couldn't lie that much to my customers

I am having this issue , sky app says i have 46mbs yet i have tried 4 speed tests and all show under 8 mbs. I set a 50 gb game downloading 4 hours ago and its only downloaded 31gb. Looks like its time to move as my contract was up last month

@Cordunn when you tried the speed test were they over wifi or ethernet with no other devices connected to your broadband
can you post your router stats
