Social media apps not working in WiFi

I've been having issues with my sky broadband it's saying it's connected but wouldn't allow me on any social media sites on our phones for weeks this has been happening I've just disabled my shield on sky and it's all starting working again will turning the shield of cause any problems or is this ok

@James173 The shield is the age protected filter on the DNS system, it protects the connection between the sky Hub and the Internet supplied through sky, there are multiple age limits to the content filter, when it is disabled then that is fine, you just have to take care off it on other devices that you feel requires that by another method!
