Slower guaranteed broadband speed following renewal
I have just renewed my contract with Sky today and previously we were guaranteed a minimum of 40MBs and now my new email states a minimum of 20MBs. This is obviously a massive hit and not great at all - why has the broadband speed been cut in half?

Re: Slower guaranteed broadband speed following renewal
Typically because the line statistics generated by BT Wholesale suggest the copper circuit isn't capable of reliably delivering the previous estimated speed.
Note this isn't the same thing as actual speed being 'cut', unless you've been moved from an 80/20 to a 40/10 wholesale service.

Re: Slower guaranteed broadband speed following renewal
Up until yesterday we were getting 35-40MBs so is it likely we'll still get that speed even in this new contract?

@FionaK97 If you take a look on the BT Broadband and use the address checker top 2nd right, put in the details for your home, it will give you some sort of idea to how semi good your connection is!

Yes, that's within the range of 40/10 wholesale service. There's no point paying for 80/20 when the line cannot support speed above 40Mbs.

Re: Slower guaranteed broadband speed following renewal
So it says that FTTC is available at my address, but it looks like Sky have signed us up based on copper speeds?

Re: Slower guaranteed broadband speed following renewal
35Mbs is a Fibre To The Cabinet speed, where the link between cabinet and subscription address is over a copper phone pair.
Speeds above 80Mbs are FTTP (Fibre To The Premises)

Re: Slower guaranteed broadband speed following renewal
@FionaK97 The display from the link shows you everything, and if the handback has been lowered previously then that is what it will be, nothing you can do on a FTTC connected line!
DSL typical what to look for, my address but on a FTTP FF500 connection now from the FTTC 40/10 that was upgraded.
