Slow speeds intermittent router

Hi, I had broadband tests carried out by Sky last week and was told that the connection coming into the Sky Max Hub from the external fibre equipment is working correctly. However, even when standing directly next to the hub with a full Wi-Fi signal, the speed is extremely inconsistent. I can get around 500 Mbps, which is correct for my package, but subsequent tests can drop to 20, 30, 60 or 100 Mbps before later returning to 300–500 Mbps. This is causing streaming to repeatedly buffer and pause. I have also moved the router out from behind the television and into an open position, but the problem remains. I contacted Sky again yesterday and was advised to purchase/use Wi-Fi extenders. I don't understand how an extender would resolve this issue when the poor speeds occur while standing immediately next to the main hub with a strong signal. This appears to be an issue with the Wi-Fi performance of the Sky Max Hub itself rather than a coverage problem elsewhere in the house. Please arrange for a replacement Sky Max Hub to be sent so that we can rule out a faulty router. I don't think it is reasonable to ask me to pay for Wi-Fi extenders before the supplied hub itself has been replaced and tested. If Sky is unwilling to replace the hub and resolve the problem, please advise me of my options for cancelling the broadband service. Thanks.
