Slow router WiFi speed - is this normal?

Hi there, I need to ask whether what I am experiencing is normal!? I switched from Plusnet to Sky today and at the same time doubled my broadband speed to 300Mbs.

My old WiFi speed off the Plusnet router was around about half the broadband speed, the new WiFi speed off the Sky broadband router is at best 40mbs, device right next to router and it drops to below 20 in my living room. I use an extender and the WiFi speed off that is over 150, now double what it was, so I know that I have good speed into the house. However previously I used to divide devices between connecting to the router and the extender, I am now putting everything through the extender.  So my question is 40mbs about the best WiFi I'm going to get from the standard broadband hub?

@TimT19 it sometimes takes an hour or so before Sky switch your full bandwidth on so it might magically sort itself. Sky hubs should offer 300Mb/s over wifi quite easily.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it and won't leap out to buy more extenders just yet.

Re: Slow router WiFi speed - is this normal?

Hi Chrisee,

Thanks for your input earlier.  Having read a few posts about slow wifi I'm thinking that it is likely that I'm going to need to invest in something to improve WiFi output v the supplied router (sr203) as clear that the issue is not the broadband connection. The existing extender I have is TP-Link RE700X WiFi 6 AX3000Mbps WiFi Extender Booster, and this works well.  I'm thinking of either of getting a second booster and using it as an access point by directly linking it to the sky router by an Ethernet cable, and turning off the WiFi on the router..  Alternatively I'd replace the sky router with a new router,  the ASUS TUF AX3000 is the one I had in mind.
What do you reckon?
