Slow connection in the mancave

Hi I have sky hub in my lounge & run a ethernet cable from the box to the mancave plugging into a mini box but my son has a wireless gaming  system set up and when he's playing  the speed drops off everywhere can I add a splinter so a  cable  to run for his gaming or will it still drop connection any help appreciated.

@Thomas108 a lotdepends on the speed of the connection to your Sky hub.  That bandwidth is shared on a first come forst served basis by the hub. That is great if you have a fast full fibre connection as there is ample to go around but less so on a partial fibre connection on a long line.

Running an ethernet cable from the hub to your son's gaming system will probably improve his gaming as wifi is liable to have higher latency ie lag. However if your son starts downloading the latest game it will still cause issues for your Sky Q box if there isnt enough bandwidth its like having a shower when someone starts running a bath. Gaming as such uses relatively little bandwidth but given games are huge it is downloads which causes the issues.

If you are on a slow connection perhaps agree only to run large downloads overnight

An unmanaged gigabit ethernet switch is the appropriate hardware.
