Slow WiFi Speed

I pay for 900Mbps but only really get 175Mbps even if I am next to the router and I have followed tips to make speed quicker. I only quite rarely get speed above 650Mbps which is just above the 600Mbps guaranteed speed.

Over optical fibre and ethernet cable as far as the Hub, not on WiFi from it.

The 'guaranteed' WiFi speed is 25Mbs.

@Sparky23 Service checker will show you what sky thinks you are getting with a logged 30 day history, see the sample below if you need on post 4.

@Sparky23 if you are on the 900Mb/s product and still in a fixed term contract you can invoke the speed guarantee if you click tgrough beside the "poor" result as your guaranteed minimum should be 600Mb/s. That will credit you with one months subs once in a 24 month contract see https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-broadband-speed-guarantee. The last speed test was run at 21.28 which is peak time and while the issue could simply be contention as up to 30 lines on your local ditribution point share a 2.48Gb/s connection it is pretty unusual to see such even results due to contention so there could be some other issue which Sky should get Openreach to check out.

WiFi speeds to your devices are much more variable but in general if the hub is out in the open on a surface off the floor you should get around 600Mb/s in the same room. However if the signal has to pass through a solid object like a wall you lose speed. The denser the object the more speed lost. Anything metal like a radiator blocks the signal totally. Fortunately for most apps 100Mb/s is ample but if you are moving large files faster WiFi is useful.

Re: Slow WiFi Speed

@Sparky23 In your bar chart with the 30 day's is there ever one up near the 900Mb/s mark at all? The reason i ask is because 550/70Mb/s is an OR speed profile set on a Fibre connection if it is an OR Openreach connection!
