Sky fibre ultrafast
Hi,
was wondering if anyone has had anything similar or could help. Had open reach out to install my fibre , the installation was quick and everything seems to be working ok. The engineer told me it can take a couple of hours for it to reach full speed , it's been nearly 24 hours and it's still the same. Do I have to wait for sky to do something on there end or is it best to give them a call ?
any help would be appreciated
thanks

Re: Sky fibre ultrafast
How are you testing that speed?
Using anything other than an ethernet connected device is producing a result for local WiFi, not speed arriving at the Hub.

Re: Sky fibre ultrafast
speed test on the computer that's connected directly to the router via Ethernet cable cat 5e. Is this the best way to do it ?

Re: Sky fibre ultrafast
Certainly, as long as you know the ethernet in the PC is capable of gigabit speeds.
Which Sky Ultrafast product did you order?

Re: Sky fibre ultrafast
You should get full speed right off the bat. What are you getting and what should you be getting?

Re: Sky fibre ultrafast
currently getting around 89 down and 60 up. I should be getting between 470 and 515 down with guarantee of 400. My up speed is fine and what it should be at , just not sure why my down isn't ?

Maybe check the ethernet settings on the computer: 89Mbs inbound might suggest something is fixed at 100Mbs rather than gigabit (but this wouldn't affect upstream bandwidth because that's under 100Mbs even on Gigabit FTTP)

Re: Sky fibre ultrafast
Sounds like ethernet might be running at 100mbps instead of 1000mbps. There is a setting in the router for fast ethernet and gigabit ethernet (needs to be set to the latter obviously).
Also worth checking the ethernet from the pc is running at full speed.
Finally try replacing the ethernet cable. Cat 5e is capable of 1gbps and more over short distances but if it's not been wired up right it would not run that quickly.

Re: Sky fibre ultrafast
For a windows pc check the current ethernet card settings and change as shown below
to check what speed your card is currently set to :-
Go to the icon of the taskbar
Locate the icon Internet
Press on network and internet settings
Click on Ethernet
Click change adapter options
Double click on Ethernet. There, you get the speed, it can be 100 mbps or 1Gbps. If it is the second, we do not have to do anything, but if it is the first we have to configure the card
Then If you have a windows pc you can change the card settings as below
In the window where the speed was indicated, you have to click on properties
Check that the option Microsoft network clients is marked, if not, do it
Click on set up
We go to Advanced Options
Search Speed & Duplex
Change the value to 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex
Accept
Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 55 inch uhd tv, with Dolbyvision, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21
If I get it right mark as answered
If I get it wrong humour me
If I say something you like give a thumbs up
