Sky Router
I have been connected with sky for about 4 years now. The wireless router is appalling and the signal coverage is rubbish at best. From the router in the hallway it struggles to reach the kitchen and because of that the camera signal is always down when I need it.
I purchased a netgear router yesterday which is highly capable than the old worn down sky router. I plugged in the ethernet line to the netgear and powered it on. No matter what I did the router had no internet acess.
Are my options limited with upgrading routers, does it have to be connected by sky? I am assuming is MAC related?

Re: Sky Router
@Hondak20 you have to configure your new router to work with Sky's connection. It does require some knowledge of how brisdband works but if you post details of the service you buy from Sky - psrtsil or full fibre - wether you are in the UK or Ireland and the midel number of the router you have bought then forum members should be able to help.
WiFi performance of the new router might be a bit better but given the primary factors affecting WiFi are tge layout and type of construction of your home dont be too surprised if it doesnt solve all the problems. All WiFi routers transmit roughly the same power which is limited by regulation.

Re: Sky Router
I live in UK, not fiber connections just regular connection. Comes with broadband and telephone line.
I don't have the router middle number yet (on previous router) as I am at work but I will scroll through my pictures to see if I can locate it

Re: Sky Router
@Hondak20 assuming it hasn't changed as it good few years since I have answered a question on Netflix modem routers there maybe a preset for Sky VDSL which should set the router up so it can authenticate the connection. If there isnt you need to enter the parameters manually to set the router to use DHCPv4 option 61 and enter a string of anything@skydsl|anything
The string is not specific to your connection and the 2 "anythings" can literally be any string of letters and numbers. Netgear have never been a favoured router for Sky connections as support for Option 61 varied. These days the alternative DHCPv6 PD works on most but not all exchanges. This one doesnt need a string.
TP-Link modem routers have always had a Sky preset and Asus routers are much simpler to set up.

Re: Sky Router
Was the middle number you are referring to the pin number of the router?

Re: Sky Router
@Hondak20 there is no pin number involved.

Re: Sky Router
@Hondak20 It is best you say Which Netgear model you have, and if the Ethernet connection on it is connecting to the back off the original sky Hub you have, there is a couple off ways to do it ie Lan - Lan connection or Wan - Lan connection and it is ALL to do with how you setup the Netgear... The sky hub still works does all off the connection side as you are still old copper connection on a fttc/adsl connection and now you just have to get the netgear connected and IT'S mode off operation correct!
