Sky Max wifi network has a different network name to Sky Q wifi after connection via ethernet

The max router seems to work fine by itself, but the network name the sky Q box puts out is different to the Max router and has a different password which is not provided. So it seems like an issue with the boxes syncing up somehow.....Ive reset the network connections on Q, turned it off and on....several times in different orders, but the wifi netork from Max and Q have different names.

Q television boxes no longer function as wireless hotspots once a Max Hub is in place.

Here are some steps you can try to get your Sky Q box and Max router to sync up and have the same network name (SSID) and password:

  1. Check Configuration Settings:
    • Log into the Sky Q box settings and check if there’s an option to link with your main network or change network settings to match your Max router's SSID and password.
  2. Sky Q Network Reset:
    • Go through the network reset process on the Sky Q box again, ensuring it connects using the "Manual Configuration" option to input the correct network name and password.
  3. Reboot All Devices:
    • Power cycle all connected devices, including the router, Sky Q box, and any WiFi extenders to clear previous settings and force a reconnection.
  4. Firmware Updates:
    • Ensure both the Sky Q box and Max router have the latest firmware updates. Sometimes connectivity issues are fixed in new firmware releases.
  5. WiFi Settings in Router:
    • Log into the Max router settings and see if there’s an option to allow new devices (like the Sky Q box) to sync the settings automatically.
  6. Disable Sky Q's WiFi:
    • If all else fails, you can disable the Sky Q's inbuilt Wi-Fi to stop it from broadcasting a separate network and connect the Sky Q box to the network using an Ethernet cable if possible. Or ethernet over homeplugs.

If these steps don't work, contacting Sky technical support for additional troubleshooting tailored to their devices may be necessary.

When not acting as a hotspot that SSID is only for other Q hardware (Sky TV boxes and boosters) to connect with.

Re: Sky Max wifi network has a different network name to Sky Q wifi after connection via ethernet

Sky tech support thought that the problem was with my Sky Q box and sent out a brand new one. I set it up but had the exact same problem and it didn't fix it.

Ultimately, the answer provided above is correct: that the sky Q/mini boxes no longer act as WiFi hotspots with the sky max router.

The fix was to ask Sky for a range extender for the max hub (this works really well). I then turn the WiFi OFF on the Q/mini boxes.

@Kay3514 the new Wifi Max hub is not compatable with the now quite old Sky Q mesh system. Only the main Q box can connect to your new hub which  then produces a closed SSID to connect Sky Q minis. There is no password for this SSID as the Q boxes connect using WPS. Non Q devices wont connect.

Re: Sky Max wifi network has a different network name to Sky Q wifi after connection via ethernet

Agreed...per the original post my Q and mini boxes are connected to the Max router via Ethernet cables, and the WiFi on those two is switched off. I then have a max range extender/booster to promote the one WiFi through the house.
