I'm a bit miffed that Sky are advertising the Sky Max router on their broadband page, but I'm unable to add it to an order for an 145Mbs line (all other G.FAST options seem to be vanishing from this area). Having spent a while yesterday talking to an operator, apparently the Sky Max router is only available to FTTP customers. This is an incredible shame given that I hear that the Sky Max hub is Wi-Fi 6 enabled.
As I already have a Wi-Fi 6 router that I've been using with VIrgin Media for the past 18 months or so, is it possible to disable WI-Fi on whatever bog standard router that Sky provides and use my own Wi-Fi 6 router as an access point (with the Sky router handling DHCP - and presumably, the router's DHCP settings can be configured as I need to use a particular subnet).
Many thanks in advance,
Martyn

The bog standard router will allow you to use your own Wifi 6 router as you have suggested you wish to do.
Also, seeing the threads on Sky's latest wifi Max router it has lots of issues including no port forwarding, wifi splitting of bands or roaming across the network with the router and wifi Pods.
In my opinion, it is best to stay clear of these alpha products currently.

The sky max hub is only compatible with vdsl2 and fttp lines and not g.fast.
Also , as yet, not available to customers who have sky q tv

Regretfully @mae-3 is correct currently the new hub has multiple issues. I am debating returning mine as the SR203 it replaced was both faster and more reliable.

Find out morePresumably Sky did their sums and decided that having a Max Hub version manufacturered with a G.fast modem just wasn't economic given the relatively small percentage of their broadband customers using that technology (and that G.fast itself is a technological dead-end which is no longer being deployed by Openreach)

Thanks all.
I've decided to go for EE Broadband in the end as they can provide 300Mbs. I'd have preferred to have gone with Sky had they had faster non-FTTP speeds (FTTP apparently available between now and December 2026 according to Openreach, so I may have a wait - unless I go with another provider who can do FTTP by letting me pay OR £4,500 for the privilege. No thanks ;))
