Sky Max Pod problems

I have had Sky Full Fibre broadband for about a month now.

I requested a Sky Max Pod almost immediately due to poor signal in most of the house. It worked for about 2 weeks then disconnected and never reconnected. Support team sent a replacement.

This replacement has been working about a week and I've had 300mbps pretty much throughout the house [except garage which may require an engineer visit]. It has suddenly started acting up for no apparent reason. My speeds have halved throughout the house and looking at the Service Checker, I can see it is struggling.

"Your device is connected to your broadband, but it might have been inactive for a while. But if your device is active and you think there's an issue, get more help with your WiFi."

It was fine before, it is in a good location and there is no indication on the pod. There's no reason it should be inactive as half the devices in the house are using it.

Re: Sky Max Pod problems

@Kd104 For you to run the Ethernet from the ONT Position to where you want the hub to be, if you have the complete wi-fi then they only work with the BT Smarthub2 Router and nothing else, so you will have to replace both off these disk's and BT probably want the router and the two disk's back anyway! Wi-Fi of the Sky Max and upto 3 supplied pods as when required may be the way to go, but you also may just wish to look at your own Mesh system also as another way of doing so!

From back in July your Max is just not doing it for you!

Re: Sky Max Pod problems

We are only using the one Sky Max Pod. I just used BT Complete Wifi as an example of previous.

The Pod continues to struggle and I cannot seem to do anything about it.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

@Kd104 If you are getting 150Mb/s iovercWiFi most rooms that is 6 times times minimum guaranteeed speed Sky offer with WiFi Max. Which is 25Mb/s It is very unlikely they would cover the garage as the guarantee only coverscrooms in your house. To get further pods you need to call Sky who will send out sn engineer to measure speeds.

In practice if you want fast WiFi throughout your home look into buying a third party set up as opposed to paying forvthe deals ISPs offer. Run as access points connected to a Sky hub by ethernet with its WiFi turned off should give more reliable coversge. Works out che

Re: Sky Max Pod problems

@Kd104 Looks like you are going to have to analyse the wireless wi-fi signal around the sky Max hub and the sky Max Pod to see what is going on with the mesh, do not use so have NO idea what the mysky app is going to show you regarding how it is meshing the two parts together, if you are not getting the speeds that you think were good before have you moved the pod to a different area, it will need to get a good steady connection from the Max hub!

I use the Netspot app for Android when looking at the wi-fi network but you may already have your own. With windows then Matt Hafners WiFi Analyzer windows software!

Although Asus based the two pictures below may help you.

Re: Sky Max Pod problems

I had an engineer come out yesterday. They have provided an additional pod.

The connection remains to be incredibly unstable for some devices.

Re: Sky Max Pod problems

@Kd104 How many pods are you using now, and they will take some time to work out how the pods mesh back to the sky Hub.

What devices are you saying are unstable, and are they everywhere that you try them!

Re: Sky Max Pod problems

@Kd104 What did the sky Engineer say to you and about the pod placement and any possible mesh issues you may have especially when adding a 2nd pod to mesh to the system?

Re: Sky Max Pod problems

The engineer placed the pods himself and connected them. He said they were the best position possible.

The wifi is currently very high latency, loads of buffering and devices being thrown off the network and/or switched between 2.4ghz and 5ghz constantly. It is practically unusable today.
