Sky Hub (SR203) Random Reboot

I have recently upgraded to Sky Gigafast 900 (FTTP).

As an existing customer I was not upgraded to the Sky Max Hub and retained my existing Sky Hub (SR203).

As I wanted to be able to take full advantage of the speeds available I have purchased and installed a pair of ASUS BT10 units which I am using in access point mode connected to the Sky Hub via Ethernet.

WiFi is turned off on the Sky Hub

Both ASUS units are connected via an Ethernet backhaul.

All is working great with the exception that the Sky Hub is now randomly rebooting on a weekly basis.

I am unable to get any information from the Sky Hubs as the logs only show from when they last rebooted.

Anyone else experienced this and any advice on how to solve?

@Simmo_UK If you SR203 is doing a random re-boot the Asus is still logging then you will see so in the Asus log file exactly when the port went down.

Either the SR203 PSU is going bad, or the SR203 is starting to fail, either one could cause the hub to re-boot, so you can try another power socket for the PSU off the SR203 do not use any off those cheap multi-way terminal blocks, and/or get sky to replace your SR203 with another unit.

Re: Sky Hub (SR203) Random Reboot

Thanks @JimM1 I appreciate your suggestions.

The ASUS logs just show the port going down and coming back at the time the Sky Hub rebooted:

May 23 10:10:27 kernel: eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) (phyId: 15) Link DOWN.
May 23 10:10:33 kernel: eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) (phyId: 15) Link Up at 1000 mbps full duplex AN: On
May 23 10:10:57 kernel: eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) (phyId: 15) Link DOWN.
May 23 10:11:01 kernel: eth1 (Int switch port: 6) (Logical Port: 6) (phyId: 15) Link Up at 1000 mbps full duplex AN: On

The Sky Hub is connected directly to a power socket (not an extension lead), I have now moved it to a different socket.

I will give Sky a call on Tuesday to see if they'll send out a replacement hub.

I will also try and find some time to set up the ASUS in router mode connected directly to the ONT in replacement of the Sky Hub.

Re: Sky Hub (SR203) Random Reboot

@Simmo_UK As you have two units ther are 3 things you need to do, have one of the Asus primary master in router operation, 2nd unit connected wan to lan off the 1st unit, setting the 2nd unit as an AI mesh Wired Backhaul to the first/master, then 3rd get the ipV6 mode operating correctly in case you need...

You can set it all up connected to the SR203 if needed, have it all working and disconnect the SR out Asus in. Forget all about the option 60/61 it is not needed....

Re: Sky Hub (SR203) Random Reboot

Thanks @JimM1

What do I need to do to set up IPV6?

Interesting, so I don't need to use the following under client identifier (option 61) anymore?

anything@skydsl|anything

Re: Sky Hub (SR203) Random Reboot

The logs from yesterday are no longer showing on the SR203.

I'll make sure I save them next time it reboots

Re: Sky Hub (SR203) Random Reboot

@Simmo_UK You only get about the 24hrs off SR203 logging before it rolls over, For ipV6 have it set as attached picture for you. Wait until cleared for viewing.

Asus settings ipV6 on sky.Asus settings ipV6 on sky.

Current as you see empty...Current as you see empty...
