Sky Full Fiber External Work

Hey,

I've got a Sky Engineer coming to activate my full fiber broadband on the 27th, however I've not yet had the external work completed by OpenReach.

Is the external work normally completed more in advance or are they normally quite close together. I'm worried about the Sky engineer turning up on activation day and they won't be able to do their work.

The issue is the underground congested duct ie they may do the internal work first but may have to rearrange a visit to sort out the duct if they can't rod and rope the fibre through.  Other than that both can be done on the same day

Will the Sky Enginner do both? I was told that someone from OpenReach would come first to do the external work and then the Sky engineer would come first to do the internal work.

I've got a date for the Sky engineer but nothing for OpenReach.

Unfortunately if Openreach hasn't got the drop cable from the local CBT to the external CSP enclosure, there's not a lot a Sky installer can do because the main part of their job is to fusion spliced an optical pigtail onto one strand of the drop cable and run this to the internal ONT.

No, typically not. Sky and other ISP personnel aren't trained or equipped for duct work: that's an Openreach thing.

Re: Sky Full Fiber External Work

Thanks all.

My query is that open reach haven't been out at all yet; and I'm due to switch in 7 days. I didn't know if this was normal, or if open reach should have completed the external work yet.

Re: Sky Full Fiber External Work

We've got similar - expecting connection on Thursday 23rd -  had a notification a few weeks ago that the Sky engineer visit (2nd of the 2 visits) was cancelled and it said Openreach will do everything to connect us up... Like you I was also expecting a 2 stage installation process with an initial visit then a follow on - will have to wait and see what happens on Thursday,... I remember last time the whole Customer -> Sky -> Openreach comms being a total nightmare (so going into this install with eyes wide open), hoping to avoid that pain again.
