Sky Fibre router reboot anytime, anyday randomly and at the most inconvenient of times usually

My Sky fibre router

Manufacturer Sky
Model SR203
Firmware Version 7.04.0206.R
DSL Firmware Version A2pvfbH043p1.d26u

Is rebooting, every day at random times - usually when I'm on a video call.  I've started logging to rsyslog and am seeing;

Feb 16 09:56:16 skyhub.ihr skytelemetry Device Doctor reboot. Shared memory critically low, total: 503kb, used: 408kb, free: 95kb, threshold: 95kb

It messes up everything - the extenders I've had to purchase because the wifi is so awful it can't reach a ring door bell 3m away, my google displays, anything wifi connected.  I guess because its a very sudden reboot, the devices with claims on the IP addresses don't get time to be cleared so when the device starts again there's a load of devices with claims on IP addresses it knows nothing about so I have to go around restarting everything.

It's actually driving me nuts.  Has anybody had this issue and solved it?  I've got 2 extenders now to take the load off the hub but still it keeps rebooting.

I put in a complaint to Sky and they just closed it saying "you're getting the speeds you're paying for".  My personal view is the device isn't fit for purpose.

If anybody can help, would be much appreciated.

@MattLinehan What extenders are you using, make and model? If third party models RE or AP mode!

Errr, TP Link in Extender mode - not sure why that's relevant.  It has the fault with our without extenders.  Same fault, runs out of memory, reboots the router.

In Addition to this I just got off a call with a Sky "engineer" who asked me to push the reset button for 15-20 seconds.

I said "sounds like a factory reset.... I don't want to do a factory reset without backing up the settings.  This is a router that replaced a previous router and I gave it the SSID of the old router to save having to reconfigure everything, I don't want to factory reset, this won't factory reset will it?"

"No... just needs 15-20 seconds hold down the reset button at back"

Do it for 15 - does a factory reset.

When I told her it DID do a factory reset she says "you must have held it down for 30 seconds".  Should have known better really.

Thanks, but if you're after tips for Extenders, they are Model RE315, Hardware RE315 1.0 and integrate with the Tether app - which is pretty neat.  They work fine as long as the carrier wifi connection isn't ripped out from under them with a sudden and unexpected reboot 🙂

I've been getting the same issue, rebooted the fibre box coming into the house, and now the router seems to have stabilised. Weirdly, our router would drop at about 7 pm on various days.

Yep, tried that quite early on but doesn't make any difference.  Still getting

skyhub.ihr skytelemetry Device Doctor reboot. Shared memory critically low, total: 503kb, used: 443kb, free: 60kb, threshold: 60kb

Then reboot.

Then walk round the house turning things off and on again.

Would leave Sky but i'm tied into a contract but will go once that's up.  Appalling service from the entire organisation.
