Recently upgraded to gigafast and replaced my sky router with the ASUS ax3000.
I've followed seatings that I've seen on posts on the forum and everything works but I have a few questions.
On the router speed check I get good results 900+ download and 111 upload with 10 ping and less than 1 jitter on most results. Which is fine.
Ive separated the frequencies and turned smart connect off etc. So my question is to do with the Xbox etc,
I've connected the Xbox to the 5ghz and on wireless according to the Xbox internal checker I'm only getting around 170/200mbs download and the ping is around 15/19 which I know isn't bad but I'm perplexed by the download speed. It's only around 9 meters if that from the router with no solid walls inbetween. I have plugged the Ethernet cable in and get much more, around 700+. Am I doing anything wrong in my router settings?

Probably not: 5Ghz just isn't very good at getting through building fabric.

I understand that but I'm literally in the same room as the router. Less than 10 meters apart. My Ethernet cable is 10 meters and has slack on it.
just thought I'd get higher download speeds over WiFi using the asus than the standard hub.

How many neighboring SSIDs do you see being broadcast?

Apart from the 2.4ghz frequency I see 3 others on my phone. 4 others on my Xbox

Do you mean with smart connect on? Yeah I had both bands together for a few days. First time I connected to the Xbox using WiFi it actually went onto the 2.4ghz but when I reset the Xbox both it joined the 5ghz. I wasn't expecting massive jumps but I got 156mbs on the old Gfast I was on before. @Chrisee

In your first post you said you are getting 900Mbs on ethernet, so the FTTP is certainly doing its thing.
I think all the WiFi results are telling you is that wireless is an inherently unpredictable and ultimately unreliable medium even with better hardware, and particularly in crowded airspace.

One possibility though: that Asus router is capable of QoS. I don't suppose it's inadvertently throttling the connection to the Xbox to preserve bandwidth for other use?

I've tried with it turned on and off didn't really change anything. I read the other posts, one saying with a gigafast connection it's not needed etc. the 900+ reading is through the asus app so I assume that's the router getting that? Xbox by Ethernet is around 700+ and then around 170/200 on WiFi.

I've just done a few speed tests just on my phone
first one - 450mbs
google speed test - 480ish
Okla or something - 580ish
all around 11/14 ping

Afraid my eyesight isn't up to reading those.
Maybe review the QoS settings: https://www.asus.com/uk/support/faq/1010935/

Do I need Upnp on? I'm not familiar with port forwarding for the Xbox.
Do I need to assign a DNS?
and when I first used the router I upgraded the firmware and then unplugged the sky hub and plugged the asus straight in, does it matter I didn't leave it 30 minutes etc to forget old kit? @TimmyBGood @Chrisee

@mae-3 any advice? Also would you recommend a static ip address for Xbox?
