Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreOver the past few months My broadband speed has been getting less and less I've just run a Sky speed Test and I'm now getting 59mbps to the hub my guaranteed Minimum download speed is 64mbps with a normally available download speed of 69 to 73mbps I use to get 71 or 72 mbps we have had a open reach tech out who run some checks and he said that 62 is the most we would get, we used to have two phones lines coming in to the house but stopped using the 2nd line years ago so this is why the plug set up looks different the phone socket does not have a broadband connection in so does not need a microfilter.
I'm just wondering if anybody can think of a reason why the speed is slowly dropping or if it is worth getting openreach back out again.

Have you posted your routers stats it will take a while to moderate. Can you copy and paste them

Out of interest is the sr203 connected to a large openreach ont modem plugged into an ethernet port or a standard openreach mastersocket?

I can't pretend to undestand the setup vis a vis the mass off wiring . We need to see the router stats. As well as post the results from my sky app->broadband->run tests->more about your connection. At the end of the day if you are below the minmum speed guarantee you'll end up contacting sky anyway

Find out moreSorry @cookiemonsteruk i thought I had posted that as well , there is no master socket and the Sr203 is plugged into the left hand socket which only has the broadband connection running to it and is pre microfilter on it (so the openreach tech says )

Bang goes the gpon theory. .pending confirmation of mgals call sky and book an engineer to fix and tidy up the spaghetti and find out what the pre microfilter thing is all about 😁

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreSome of the wires in the picture have nothing to do with the broadband it's been like that for a good few years and I mean a good few years . I've only started to have the issue in the last 4 or 5 months like I said open reach have already been out and found no issues and they say that's the best my line will support.

Line attenuation suggests closer to 80Mbps in conjunction with 64Mbps guarantee suggest different . Can you describe this pre microfilter or post a photo

The router stats and that wiring look a little suspect internally for maximum speed obtainable. The reason the BT Openreach engineer is stating that's the maximum you'll get is the noise margin is around the 6dB but the attenuation would indicate the line capable of more but noise not so.
20Mbps below the maximum on a relatively short line, estimate about 230-240 metres to the cabinet as the cable runs. And you've got a rather low upstream speed additionally.
I state you have a line fault at that distance to the cabinet but will BT Openreach send another engineer?
[add] Also, looking at the router stats, upstream mainly, I say the fault is about 7-8 metres from that telephone socket as the cable runs or its bridge tap at that point before running to that telephone socket. The reason it's not likely to show up until recently is the cabinet is likely almost or nearly full now and that wiring is more susceptible to cross-talk because of the educated guess there is a bridge tap local in or near the premises?
