Signal strength - sudden loss

Hi I've had the current setup for around 18 months with no issues. This includes sky broadband, sky q with 2 mini boxes downstairs, 2 more on the 1st floor and 1 more in the loft. Yesterday only the Ethernet connected sky box would work, after loads of resetting and rebooting I got the 2 downstairs ones working. All the boxes upstairs and alexa's won't connect or work. The Wi-Fi seems much slower also. On the settings screen on the mini boxes upstairs you can see the tick and cross going in an out for connectivity confirmation. It seems the router has lost its strength?? Nothing has changed in the house so I can't understand how or why? Broadband test also says no issues detected. Anyone got any ideas please?

@wtme given you can only connect a maximum of 4 Q mini boxes to a main Q box how come you appear to have 5? Is one of the units a Sky booster or did you buy boxes from a ebay or similsr?

In total you have 7 Sky Q mesh nodes which is approaching the technical limit of the Airties mesh system system which could be a factor. The technology behind the Sky Q wifi is getting pretty old but where there are too many possible routes between nodes - any box can talk to any other box and will switch data through any other box with a link back to the hub - as the number of boxes increase these routing permutations become unmanageable.

I would remove one Q mini at least and power down the other boxes apart from the one connected by ethernet. The power up the main box first and make sure that is connected properly then power up the remaining boxes working away from the known networked boxes.

Re: Signal strength - sudden loss

Thanks for the reply, it has all been installed for the last 18 months with no issues. All equipment supplied by sky and installed by their engineer. 5 boxes supplied and work no issues - not sure why you think you can only have 4?

rebooted everything again today and miraculously seems to be working, including all 5 mini boxes - noting you can't use them all at the same time which is as it was before. Problem solved for now.

@wtme apologies you can have 5 Q minis but only 2 can work at any one time. It does  not alter the issue thst you are nearing the limit on the capabilities of the hub. Rebooting often sorts these issues but your system will always be a bit unstable.

The new SkyGlass/Stream system overcomes these issues with up to 6 pucks and 3 TVs possible all operating in UHD IF you have enough bandwidth of course.
