Should I be using IPV6
Hey Folks,
I've just recently (today) switched from BT Fibre. Cuurrently connected using IPV4 Option 61 on my UDM-PRO-MAX.
Should I also be enabling IPV6? Does it gain me anything? I've heard that this may enable MAP-T, which can be a PITA for port forwarding and the like. Really just looking for the Pros/Cons.
Cheers
Chris

Re: Should I be using IPV6
Hi @NeoDude
If the question is specifically about authenticating a 3rd party CPE router on Sky's network, then using DHCPv6-PD is an alternative method that is more commonly supported by CPE routers than DHCPv4 Option 61, but is not ubiquitously supported across Openreach's network. Our network supports both, and the only downside to not using both, is perhaps a small delay in initial authentication, afterwards there should be no other impacts with authentication.
If the question is more generally about the benefits of IPv6, then it can be beneficial indeed; IPv6 avoids issues introduced by NAT44 specifically around gaming and other peer2peer type use-cases. There are also studies showing that IPv6 might offer a marginal performance benefit over IPv4.
Enabling IPv6 alone does not force you to use MAP-T and IPv4 address sharing, only if your CPE router "asks" for it. There were previously known bugs in some 3rd party routers that did ask for MAP-T but didn't actually support it, however they have been fixed now.
