Scam or not?

We had an engineer visit yesterday to repair our internet, all up & running but this morning we had a call from open reach (or did we?) saying since this our IPs address is no longer private & now public. I'm not technically up there but I wouldn't answer any questions & once I said I'd contact my provider myself to check because of scams they put phone down. Was I right to question this?

@Techornot39  As addition to @FLC  post Openreach would never call a customer like this, nor would any ISP

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.
