Router resetting itself, possible ONT problem

As I previously said in another topic I have just had my router replaced, had alot of issues with my broadband in the last month or so, ranging from the voice led turning (amber) been told to ignore that, but now my router is resetting itself every few hours, like all the lights go off, power light red then it starts the process of a hard reset, I rang Sky and they believed this to be a faulty router so I've had my new one connected for a few days, it was fine until this morning, the router began to power cycle itself again, only this time the LAN led on the ONT goes off for 1-2 seconds before coming back on, this occurs as soon as the connection drops then it's straight back on as the router goes through the reset process and flickering like it usually does when the connection is fine, I have contacted Sky again who have escalated this to Openreach, I'm just waiting to hear back from them with what they are going to do, the fact the LAN light is going off when the router disconnects/resets would point to an ONT problem, I've been with Sky for around 7-8 month and had no issues whatsoever with the ONT

@Robbo0410 you will have to wait until Openreach pick up the issue after the holiday but it is possiblectge ONT is faulty.

@Chrisee yeah I guess it's just a waiting game, when the faulty router was power cycling all 3 lights remained on the ONT where as now the LAN light is going off for a split second during a reset, it's unfortunate as I have had no issues since the engineer put it in 7-8 month ago when I changed over to Sky full fibre, I already had FTTP they just replaced the ONT

@Robbo0410 there is far less to go wrong with full fibre but the key components are the units that create the optical signal at the exchange and the ONT in the customers home that turn the optical signal back to a digital electrical signal. Everything in between be they splitters, connecters etc are all passive units.

Re: Router resetting itself, possible ONT problem

@Chrisee could be anything, says a fault between the exchange and my home on the engineer tracking on the My Sky app but I think that's just the default message you get on the tracking, hopefully it's a quick fix cause for the most part Sky broadband has been solid since I changed over from BT, I just hope it's not intermittent

Re: Router resetting itself, possible ONT problem

@Chrisee after speaking to a mate who is an Openreach engineer they believe it's the router as the ONT can't physically make the router lose power so it's either a faulty router, power supply or an issue with the socket that it is plugged into I will have to exercise all options and possibly ring Sky for another replacement, bit of a nightmare but I'm pleased it's not the ONT that's causing the problem

Certainly worth checking the mains supply especially if both units are using the same outlet. I wouls agree the ONT cannot cause a hub to reboot but then again the hub can't cause the ONT to have connection issues.

Re: Router resetting itself, possible ONT problem

Only time the LAN light goes off is when the router loses power which is normal since there'll be no traffic once the router power light goes back to green it's straight back on, it's a strange one I have noticed sometimes the voice light goes orange just before the router loses power, currently trying an extension into another socket as that's the only other socket I can try, if that fails then it's either the router or my electrics are bunk...

@Robbo0410 @Chrisee

You may also have a faulty PSU unit that powers the Router/Hub, keep that in mind also.

They can also develop issues similar to what you have. Dropping the supply to the hub.

Re: Router resetting itself, possible ONT problem

@JimM1 fingers crossed it's just a faulty power supply, I still have working broadband technically but I'm a serious gamer and do it alot in my spare time but ATM I can't really play properly with the router just randomly losing power, bit of a nightmare really
