Router crashing

I'm having major issues with my sky router lately.

For the past month it just keeps rebooting randomly. This has happened since going from 65mb/s to 900mb/s using the same router. Before that it was fine.

The ONT lights are always green but the router actually reboots so it's the hardware not the connection.

Also lately I've upped my home lab stuff from one proxmox server to 3 in a cluster and an UNRAID server. I also have a shed load of bulbs and WiFi smart Plugs (some are Zigbee but a lot of the plugs are Wifi).

Is it worth getting sky to replace it as faulty or am I simply ramming far too much down it's throat either though maxing the speed quite often, too many devices (well over 50 if you count virtual machines) or too many WiFi devices or all of the above.

Would I be better off getting a Unifi router or going down the pfsense route (I looked at sky's max router but I'm not paying monthly for a new router).

Re: Router crashing

It definitely seems to be relates to downloading. I've been trying to download a 4gb and it's crashed 4 times every time I resume.

I haven't seen an invite yet but it's 2am so I'll have a look for it in the morning.

It's going to be a pain though setting up the SSID's, doing the port forwarding and changing the DHCP settings again.

Re: Router crashing

Tried it. Sent a message but by the time they got round to replying I was at work. Just got home but now they are saying they'll get back to me tomrorow....when I'm working. It's VERY frustrating as it's getting worse. I can actually make it crash by downlading a big file though my main PC.

I've just got around it by downloading through Opera with it's built in VPN active as this killed the speed.

Just want sky to get back to me now when I'm not at work.

@Cooners the chat service is not instant and many people can use it at work if you cant then you are going to have to call in

Re: Router crashing

Quick update, I finally gave them a ring as the chat thing just wasn't working (kept missing each other).

They've sent me a new router.....and it's doing exactly the same thing!!!

I didn't copy the setup, I set everything up from scratch but within 10 mins it crashed again!!!

I just don't think that thing is man enough to handle sustained downloads at full speeds without crashing.

What would be the next step, do they have a better router they can supply without charging a monthly fee for it because that seems wrong to give you a router that can't handle the connection then expect us to pay monthly just to get one that doesn't crash.

Re: Router crashing

Any update, as my router crashes daily since upgrading to 900Mbps and I'm on my 2nd router.

Re: Router crashing

Yes phone them again. Ask for the white router.....it's horrible but it works. Don't let them charge you extra. Ring up and go through to cancellations. Tell them it's not fit for purpose. They'll sort you out.
