Hi folks,
Intro: Sky App shows Im getting 20MB down. The router stats suggest the same. But at my PC (speedtest.net) it shows nearer 4MB down. A big difference. Assuming the router/app is correct, it would suggest the issue is my side. But on the same LAN I can get 16-20MB down, I accept there's be some loss.
Often, which is what puts doubt in my head, poor weather rattles the outside cable and often we need Openreach to repair the connection at one of the poles. (above-ground cable). I have FTTC and a long run from cabinet to house (call it a mile above ground poles). It is really hard to report that as you seem to have to force a call out after going through the "is your router turned on" steps.
From a LAN point of view, I have the router at the point of entry in the house, then I run a cable to the loft where I have a 1GB switch/patch panel, from which an ethernet cable runs to each bedroom, downstairs and living room etc. We then have 4x PS5 connections, 4 Smart TV connections, plus 4 mobile phones, 3 ipads. That is a lot of data being shared of course for what is a poor supply (Im rural-ish and FTTP has done my area about 0.5 mile away and missed us out). But, of all those devices, maybe 2x PS5, 1 TV, 3 x phones runs at once, plus my PC.
So in writing, Im wondering if anything stands out from stats shown below that might point to anything? Is it traffic in the house, a line break, something external and so on. I find just seeing 20MB to the router lacks in depth picture etc. Thanks for any input.

from your stat's this copy shows you are pulling 19,889,342 nearly 20Mb/s on your wan.
This is a snapshot at the time, so you certainly are getting the max, speedtest are only good
if you know that there is NOTHING else happening at that point on the test.

This is another test, give it a go, but make sure that there is nothing else happing, you can
easily look at the stats if your wan is high, then there is something going on.....

This is primarily a function of how long the line is and its condition. You have a long line but it also appears to be faulty as the noise margin is being reported 10dB which is well above tge normal range of 3 to 6dB. Your line has been set to connect no faster than 20Mb/s shich can bbe to try and stabilise the connection. You should discuss this with Sky to seecif Openreach can repair your line to get better performance. You should have been given a minimum speed which is probably higher than 20Mb/s
When you run a speed test on a device the result is the slowest part of the transfer. A 20Mb/s sync should give speedtest of roughly 18Mb/s as around 8% of bandworth is lost as it is required for network overheads. Slower tests means the connection from the hub to the device is slower which with wifi is pretty common as signal strength varies due to the layout of your home.

As a follow up, ive an engineer booked for 06/01/24. The support I spoke to didnt quite understand what I meant by noise on the line (thought I meant telephone static), but booked an engineer at my request anyway. I'll follow up here with any progress.

Even though the speed is pegged at 20Mbps you only have 1 band DS1 in play and at a maximum speed of around 25Mbps even if the fault is fixed, whether the engineer can do much is debatable. The length of the broadband line is pretty long at about 1.6km to the cabinet.

In honesty a resolution for me is getting my speed back to what Ive had before, around 16MB while it sits now around 6MB. Not great either way but a big difference when being used (notable).

Looking at your router stats you were already getting over 19Mbps downstream at the time you took a snapshot of the router stats, so the broadband line is handling the 20Mbps it set at currently. Why Sky have booked an engineer to look at a long line of 1.6km that goes overhead and is performing pretty well currently amazes me.

You cannot have 20Mbps concurrently to every device you have on your LAN, it is 20Mbps shared among all your devices and you are getting that speed at the time you run the snapshot of the router stats, the 10dB noise margin is a reflection of the noise on DS2 which is owing to its length, and the fact it is an overhead cable.
Recommend you look at what device is taking all the bandwidth and be reasonable about what you can get from your broadband because physics cannot be broken and the reason you only have 6Mbps from one device is another device(s) are using the capacity.

Thanks @mae-3 appreciate the input. I agree and mostly understand that the available data is shared across the household. From previous posts and history on the line (high wind taking out connections on a pole) I took it that was likley to have happened again. So, I've just taken another speed test, same devices running (kids upstairs on consoles, wife streaming TV). But with a speedtest of 18MB. Suggesting generally no fault. So, I thought comparing stats might show something (or indeed not, if the same, suggesting anything is around my LAN)

Ive compared to initial posting, and nothing jumps out at me being any different? Meaning, as you suggest @mae-3 it is something drawing more data around my LAN?

The router stats are now showing that you aren't drawing as much bandwidth/capacity from the WAN, and it should be back to normal, eg: meaning it was probably one of the consoles on the network LAN at the time that was using the capacity earlier. Recommend you cancel the engineer.

If you sit and look at the Rx b/s for all the devices, wan lan 2.4 and 5ghz
every 10 seconds the figures update, this is the snap at this point, if you count the values look at your first posting you will see that when i replied was 19+mb/s. This gives you the idea what is happening.
I would also reset your router ie, power off for a min, as your up times are all over the place....
