Replace with TP-Link AX5400

Hey All,

Iv gone through all the boards and googled but I cant seem to quite find a complete action or solution.

I have a TP-Link AX5400 which i want to replace my sky full fibre hub with.

I see lots of talk about option 61 etc but im not exactly sure what to do, or if it can be done on this router.

Can anyone help?

That router does not have dhcp option 61 compatibility. You could try authenticating via dhcpv6 pd

Tp link AX is on latest firmware

IPV6 on (advanced menu option)

Dynamic IP (SLAAC/DHCPv6)

advanced settings: DHCPv6

prefix delegation enabled

DNS address: get dynamically from ISP

IPv6 LAN

SLAAC + stateless DHCP

Re: Replace with TP-Link AX5400

Good evening,

@Dlevick85  did you have any joy with the TP-Link AX5400 on Sky FTTP?

@cookiemonsteruk Thanks for the reccomendations going to give these a try. Failing that can anyone reccomend a third party router that will handle DCHP 61 and offer QOS?

Thanks

Re: Replace with TP-Link AX5400

@kmacc007 You have to do your own research and make your own mind up, look at Asus but plenty more out there. A badly set up QOS router can lead to lot's off problems, so look for a good support forum also, unless you know what you are doing.

That method is dhcpv6 prefix delegation and should work on 80% of exchanges

If it doesn't then the asus rt ax58u and above, plus asus zenwifi xt8,and xt9  should work

Re: Replace with TP-Link AX5400

I did some research online and thought I’d ordered a model that supports Sky’s requirements, but I can’t seem to find the DHCP Option 61 settings in the router setup.

I’ve only had the router plugged in for about 8 hours so far. I did notice it lost the internet connection once, but I wasn’t sure if that was related to me connecting my Deco units in Access Point mode. Since turning the Decos off, the connection seems stable.

Unfortunately, I’m not very knowledgeable about this kind of setup. I also came across the post below, which left me a bit confused:

https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/Has-Sky-removed-the-Option-61-requirement-from-non-Sky-router...

Thanks RE QOS, I only plan on enabling this when gaming in the house alone.

Re: Replace with TP-Link AX5400

@cookiemonsteruk

Thanks for the heads up. I'd read on another thread which I've qouted above that this might work as you've mentioned.

I only got the router yesturday off amazon so can easily return it.

I'd looked at the Asus routers but the models I'd seen qouted where out of my price range, however the model you mention asus rt ax58u i can find on amazon at pretty much the same price as the Tp-Link.

I suppose if there is any doubt about the TP-Link working i should just order the below model?

Thanks for your help

Re: Replace with TP-Link AX5400

@kmacc007 The fact that you have the TP-Link router connected you are 99% off the way there.

The dhcpv6 prefix delegation should work on most upgraded exchanges but the older ECI exchanges probably won't work with PD.  Give it a go with the tp link

Re: Replace with TP-Link AX5400

@kmacc007 The Asus unfortunate is price, they are expensive but they just work and work, best advice for you, do NOT mix and match, all Asus or All Tp-Link, Asus make real router's but be prepared to learn, the Tp-Links are easier for setup, Asus just a little more difficult but they are trying hard to make that process easier if you are an app person.

Two Asus XT8's and a RP-AX58 sitting behind the SR203 at present, Asus has NEVER hickuped once.

Re: Replace with TP-Link AX5400

@cookiemonsteruk  @JimM1

Thank you both for your help and suggestions. I'll run with the TPLink at the moment as i want hopefully succesfully and the Deco Mesh system which is also TPlink.

I think that might have caused the issue this afternoon when i took down sky q main box and mini boxes.

First sign of any other issues and I'll return to amazon and swap it our for a Asus.

Thanks again

Re: Replace with TP-Link AX5400

For reference we are on a housing estate built about 6 years ago so maybe on the newer infrastructure and hence why it's working maybe?
