@Jade331  Where is this red light on the router or if you have ultrafast broadband on the ONT?

If someone has helped give them Like.

@Jade331  You will need to call Sky back and report this as still not fixed. Have you tried to re-start the ONT since they said it was fixed?

Re: Red light on box

It would help if you were specific about which light is red and whether this is an Openreach or CityFibre ONT.

(ONT = Optical Network Terminal.  The box attached to the wall).

@Deb3000  It don't matter what ONT it is. If there is a red light then there is an issue.

Re: Red light on box

Yes, I already have that information, (and more).  A red light is clearly an issue.  Diagnosing what issue requires knowing which light is red!

The model can be significant though: where it's an elderly one with a Battery Backup Unit then there can be a scary red 'fault' light on the BBU itself while the internet connection is working entirely correctly.

The age of that unit is such that they are all going to start exhibiting this symptom because the AA rechargeable batteries inside are now worn out: this probably should have been taken into consideration when they were designed and deployed ; )

Re: Red light on box

@Jade331 There are 4 (four) lights on the ONT box and depending on which one you actually have supplied to you, Mine is the Nokia version so the lights from left to right go Power, LOS, PON, and finally LAN. The normal operation is Power is Green, LOS is out no light, PON is Green (Solid light) and LAN flashes as data is sent back and forth between it and the Sky Hub.

Knowing which light is RED helps to say what the potential problem is, on the picture that was supplied for you to see, then that model has a Battery Back Up unit installed, and the batteries in it are more than likely done, IT does not stop the unit from operating but if the mains power fails then the unit will switch off as NO batteries to keep it working!
