Possible Scam Call Claiming to Be from Sky – Verification Request

Hello,

I would like to check whether a phone call I received was genuinely from Sky or if it might have been a scam.

About three weeks after I started my Sky broadband service, I received a phone call from someone who said they were from Sky. They told me that I had been selected for a welcome gift, and that I could choose either an iPad or an iPhone 17 for free. They asked me to choose the device and colour, and said it would be delivered the next day.

During the call:
- She already knew my name, date of birth, and monthly payment amount.
- She asked for my address.
- She asked me to communicate via WhatsApp and add a contact called “Adam.”
- She asked me to send a screenshot confirming I added the contact.
- She said another information department would call me later.

I did not provide any bank details, card information, or verification codes.

Could you please confirm:
1. Whether this call was actually from Sky.
2. Whether Sky runs a promotion offering a free iPhone or iPad as a welcome gift.
3. If this appears to be a scam, what steps I should take to protect my account or personal information.

Thank you very much for your help.

@Hano  Sky certainly don't give out free welcome gift like ipads, it was a Scam caller.  I would recommend changing your login in password to your Sky account as a precaution - https://www.sky.com/help/articles/how-to-change-your-sky-email-password

@Hano

Definitely a scam. Sky would soon be in financial trouble if they offered free iPads and the latest iPhones.

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your previously agreed telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.

No, absolutely not.

Realistically there isn't anywhere near enough profit margin on a broadband subscription to make that possible.
3. If this appears to be a scam, what steps I should take to protect my account or personal information.

Don't provide a cold-caller with any additional information.  Be wary of unexpected deliveries from Sky Mobile and never  'send those back' to an address which a subsequent call advises you to.

Your personal information is safe if you never respond to any fake emails or calls saying they are from Sky. If ever you are unsure then just do as you have here and ask for advice from this community.
