Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

Hey all. I've just had Sky 500 installed & the WiFi seems very poor. WiFi calling cuts out even when sitting next to the router. Upstairs the WiFi signal drops in & out.

Is this a common thing with Sky?

I'm thinking I'll cancel & go back to forging where the signal was great.

 Thanks

@Dc88 What Hub/Router before and after with isp's, also FF before the change also! If you are not sure off the sky one see the link for the name!

Re: Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

I'm short yes, sky it woeful. Mine has had endless issues. Sky tech unable to resolve and they tied me into a 24month contract when they upgraded my internet service which was meant to fix my issues. I've got Full Fibre 300 and it's always dropping below 200mbps but because their equipment is the issue I can't claim as they state "you're getting over 200mbps TO the router" just not FROM it!

it's a farce. I'll be leaving the second my contract is up.

Re: Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

Hi. Looks like I've got the white sky max hub. I had a virgin media hub 4 before which seemed great compared to this one.

I'm not very technical so not sure what ips or tt mean. Thanks

Re: Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

@Dc88 If you have the sky Max hub, on a FF500 feed, then there are a few things you should look at and linked below that may help, the 2nd one is with using your app so it's in advanced and if on WPA3-T you may want to do the WPA2-PSK mode!

and this one for the securities on wireless worth a look at!

Re: Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

@RM1210 200Mb/s is good on a FF300 connection, although most modern devices can reach that speed when required, so not sure what you are doing or your testing method as you do not say, also what was the initial problem that you needed solved?

The service checker will show you your 30 Day history when sky chrcks to your hub, use broadband and the > to expand and see that!

Re: Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

The internet regularly drops completely leaving the household without any internet especially during the night when the kids wake up demanding their iPads! I've tested through a speed test which last time I checked was giving me 38mbps not the guaranteed speed of 200. If and when the internet works it's fine but it's far from reliable. Working from home regularly causes issues for me and although I am certain the SkyQ box also plays some part in disruptions the WiFi itself isn't more than a metre away and should emit its own signal. I think Sky generally are just lying through their teeth as I have only the information they provide as to speeds to the router not from it. After being tied imo a 24 month contract somewhat sneakily I'll be sure to sack it off when I can. Sky are just greedy liars in my experience.

Re: Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

@RM1210 Do you also have the sky Max hub on your FF300 connection or are you using the sky Broadband hub with the sky Q that is a better combo with that?

Re: Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

Yes, I have the black router which is the same I had before upgrading. I had fibre before but it wasn't fibre to home which it is now. Once again my broadband has completely stopped working tonight, I've had to reboot all devices, restart the router and the sky Q main box and reconnect all minis it's just a right faff!

Re: Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

@RM1210 When you get a minute take a look at the Broadband speeds linked below gives you the idea off the service checker history to look at, although mine is based on the FF500 connection. I did make one change on the SR203 to set it to always use WANoE connection but don't think that is the issue, have a look at the service that sky see's first, when you say it locks up, do you have all 4 Green lights on the hub, but it seems like no one is at home Broadband wise, if so may be worth leaving the sky hub off but that does mean for at least the hour to get a new IP, also worth taking a look at what your ONT is doing on the Fibre, Power and Pon solid Green always, Lan will flash as data back and forth, rapid when it's all working good....

Re: Poor to no WiFi signal upstairs

@RM1210 When you moved over to the FF Full Fibre connection from your part fibre copper, did the sky Hub move position, ie by a lot from were it was before the move... It can have a dramatic affect on wireless wifi operation if it did that move wise!

You go from working well to absolute nightmare with wifi...
