Poor WiFi coverage across the household

Recently switched to full fibre and the sky max hub.  Have waited the requisite 2 weeks to ensure everything has settled, but still experiencing poor wifi coverage across the house e.g. internet tv cannot connect, phones defaulting to network coverage.  The router is on a flat surface, uncovered and as far away as possible from external walls and window where the fibre comes in.

There's no need to wait for full fibre to 'settle' as it's all digital through the optical cable. Is it possible to connect a longer ethernet cable between the ONT and the router, making the router as central as possible will give you the best coverage without going down the route of boosters and wifi mesh systems.
