Poor WiFi Signal for Ring Doorbell

Hi

Before moved over to Sky I had no issue with my wifi connection to my ring doorbell.

My signal now is very poor & it's delaying everything from Ring to reach me.

Is there a booster or something I can get from you guys to help with this???

Thank in advance!

@Harves doorbells are a common issue as they are often screwed onto a double thicknedd external wall which blocks most of the wifi signals cannot reach.

Sky can provide boosters but they come as part of an add-on package called Sky WiFi Max which guarantees 10Mb/s or 25Mb/s in every room in your home see https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-wifi-max so wont cover the doorbell but most do work. A lot depends on the layout and type of construction of your home but do check first thst your existing hub is in the best position which is out in the open on a surface above furniture and radiators.

If you dont want to pay Sky extra each month you can buy and use your own wifi kit which can work out cheaper in the long run.

@Chrisee

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have Sky Broadband Superfast, didn't realise you had to be on a certain broadband to get the boosters from Sky.

I will look into getting products to help & check my layout of where my router is.

@Harves it WiFi Max isn't a change to the broadband its an add-on package you can buy on Superfast or full fibre or whatever

@Almaz you can check the connection to the doorbell in the Ring app if you you view the device menu of the doorbell and choose device health half way down  you will see an entry for signal strength (RSSI) you want a figure higher than -70 (its a negative number so -50 is better -80 is worse).

Re: Poor WiFi Signal for Ring Doorbell

@Chrisee You want the rssi to be as low as possible got mine running at -42dB but only because off the Powerline, the -60's where just not cutting it of the asus router's...

@JimM1 agree the higher the stronger thecsignal the better but mine runs perfectly at -70dBm and is Ring's own boundary be tween OK and poor see https://ring.com/support/articles/92bd2/Understanding-wifi-recommendations-for-Ring-devices

Re: Poor WiFi Signal for Ring Doorbell

@Almaz Looks like you have a good signal from the booster to the ring doorbell if they are both connected to each other, you need to make sure that your booster is fine and connected back to the Sky Hub with no issues. Easiest and quickest way, use your mobile out at the doorbell everything closed as would be normally, run a speed test and see what you get that would be same the doorbell should be seeing!
