Open reach put box in wrong position

We are due to have sky broadband installed this week. Yesterday open reach engineers arrived at my house without an appointment to install the fibre cable prior to installation.  I was at work and my wife had to go out . The grey splicing box was installed without consultation and is in completely the wrong place. Will the Sky installation engineer be able to move the box? It's only a few metres away and will mean less cable run.
I'm upset because the open reach engineer didn't tell my wife he was installing a box nor did he ask where it should go, he just said he had to run some cables to the house

Typically no: the Customer Service Point (CSP) is part of the national Openreach network and ISP personnel shouldn't be relocating it.

The problem is the incoming cable from the street infrastructure will probably have been cut to length at the position where the CSP is now.

Oh no, I'll speak to the Sky engineer when he comes.
If he can't move it I will just have to cancel Sky Broadband and go back to Virgin

There are no power points near where the fibre would come indoors, so it will have to be moved

Why didn't Sky inform when Openreach were coming?

The ONT can be installed up to twenty metres from the CSP: installers carry optical pigtails that long.  They fusion-splice the end of the pigtail at the CSP.

Typically because they don't know: the national rollout is an Openreach project.

Re: Open reach put box in wrong position

Hi Tim,

Thank you for the information, its put my mind at rest

The ONT is only a few metres from the CSP so it shouldn't be a problem.
