Open reach Engineer wait time

After nearly 18 months of relative stability my router started playing up, phone LED goes amber (rest stay green)  and I loose internet. After much faffing Sky told me they could see a line fault and booked an engineer .. this was 22 May .. still no update on a visit and reliability is getting worse (btw I suspect it's the router again but let's confy that) .. Any idea on when Open reach might bother to take a look?

  • As someone in the business of IT I do wonder why their service checker is so bad and they don't run a pulse check on the routers, AI could probably sort 99% of issues if sent logs after outages.

@BlackandWhiteCats most Openreach activity is done remorely without needing to enter the customers home so a check could have been done. The My Orders section of the My Sky app should give you the status of that order. If you are still getting issues recontsct Sky. However Intermittent faults especially on partial fibre lines thst cause loss conections to drop are normally managed automatically by varying the line paramters basically gradually lowering the connection speed until the line stabilises Openreach rarely intervenes unless thst process reaches a limit or drops exceed 10 per day. Sky have very limited ability to insist.

The online service checker uses the status of the network lease which renews each hour hence the delay in picking up dropped connections. It is not an ideal system but it is what Sky say is the most reliable indicator. Your idea of pinging the hub has been suggested but not implemented as far as I am aware.

Re: Open reach Engineer wait time

Thanks for responding.

I'm aware they will do it remotely My Orders has been sat at Engineer Investigation - In Progress coming soon since 22 May despite it saying it will usually be carried out in 2-5 days. Meanwhile it's getting worse, disrupted my heating controls and work.

Time is precious and each time I call Sky they have me do a load of diagnostics that I know wont make any difference so I'm loath to call them.

On the ping front I think Sky are missing a massive opportunity for automated fault reconciliation possibly even before customers notice. I suspect of course the router hardware is cheap and can't handle the small script involved. Thanks again.

Re: Open reach Engineer wait time

Pretty much think it's the router started refusing Wi-Fi connections and then my tv got assigned an ip address in the 90. range last time this happened it was a failing router. Another call coming up I think.
