Noob - know my router

HI,

I've just signed up with Sky, Full Fibre Gigfast 900Mb deal.

Does anyone know, please, what router i will get ?

I hoping to check if i will be able to set Cloudflare as my DNS.

Or, failing that, the best, preferably low effort & cost, way to get around the limitations.

Thanks for reading.

Any suggestions to get round this limitation anyone please?

You can usually do this on a per device level, I've set Google as primary and Cloudflare as the alternate on my PC for instance.

Edit: if you don't need the landline, replacing the router entirely is an option but obviously costs and is for the more technically minded.

@Marv555

Typically the Max Hub.

No Sky domestic router permits the user to select an alternative DNS provider.

@Marv555 I should add, disable Sky Broadband Shield entirely. Another option dependant on device is using a VPN service but they have their own overheads.

Re: Noob - know my router

Thanks for that @Me134

Thanks for the tip regarding Sky Broadband Shield, I do usually optout of that sort of thing but it's not always obvious that someone has switched it in for me. At least now i'm forwarned.

I am currently setting per device now on my rather failed EE~Three certainly not 5G service but with previous ISP i've found that setting the router was just so much easier.  With the added benefit of "protecting" (well, sort of) any others using my wifi too.

Has anyone any suggestions on which, preferrably "economical", router to use if i went down, or up, that route please?

UK government requires ISPs to have

restrictions in place by default.

Re: Noob - know my router

That's fine @TimmyBGood but users need to be warned.

Furthermore, i could equally argue that ISP's shouldn't stop users from using a different DNS, i.e. one that doesn't harvest and that they prefer for whatever reason.
