No ONT at new house

I was given no option but to upgrade to full fibre at my new property. Sky said no engineer would need to visit - great, as I need Internet daily for work so assumed it would be a straightforward set up. At no point did anyone mention I need an ONT. I didn't even know what this was.

Now openreach have texted to say to check my ONT to make sure it's functioning. I can't find this in my property. Does this mean I don't have one? Surely sky should have told me about this and organised installation before my activation date as part of Mt broadband package?

I'm very annoyed as I rely on Internet for work so can't be disconnected. I've since heard nothing back from OpenReach and nothing from Sky.

I'll double check for my ONT but where are these usually located? If I don't have one, should I be chasing Sky to organise installation?

'ONT exists with active service', so yes, there has been one.  Unfortunately it's not unknown for the previous occupant to misguidedly remove them as part of moving out.

What you'd be looking for is a thin white cable with a green oblong jack (the optical feed), typically somewhere near a twin power socket.

Sometimes in cupboard space, but more typically above a skirting board at a ground floor location near a twin mains socket.  If it's been removed you should still see the optical fibre, its entry point (sometimes with a circular white cover) and possibly twin screws in the wall.

If I don't have one, should I be chasing Sky to organise installation?

You'd need to report its absence to Sky: unfortunately they may not be able to action a replacement until after the scheduled activation date.

No problem.  Note that there have been various ONT models over the years (the unit in the picture is a recent one) but they all have assorted LEDs, an optical cable feed and one or more ethernet ports.  There's also a version mounted inside a larger enclosure which hides the cables.
