New hub activation

Read several thousand items and still no answer. Changed contract 23rd March and got told a new booster hub would be sent ( mini box goes off as no signal ). Arrived promptly next day. No activation date but new PW etc. Nothing on orders, nothing on account, still running prev contract stuff presumably until mid April when new one kicks in. But when on earth am I   to change over to new hub/router.

Getting an answer is sooo painful. Tried sending email to sky to be redirected to robot which was useless.

Sorry to waffle but losing it now.

Thanks in advance to any techy replies

@Painfulthisis

What package were/are you on now and what package have you resigned up to. You mention a new contract rather than 'upgrade' so it could be the new Hub may just work straight away if all you've done is recontract and been given a new Hub;

rather than 'upgrade' to a faster speed and/or a different provision (from FTTC to FTTP just as an example)

Actually @Skull+Treaty & @Painfulthisis your new hub should connect to your existing serviceceven if you are waiting on an upgraded service.itvcan be done whenever it suits you. Worse case is it wont connect it wont break anything.

One trick that can save a lot of messing around is to connect a single device to the new hub before it is connected to the line and change  its wifi SSID and password to match your old hub. Then when you swap the two over all of your devices will connect without needing any reconfiguration. IIRC my SSIP/Password combo belongs to a hub I swapped out 5 years back!

Re: New hub activation

I haven't upgraded as such just changed a few things so from entertainment to signature, BB speed stays same. Kept Q and multiroom function..  It just brought bill down as part of new deal.  Got offered new booster router due to loss signal with multiroom box.

Re: New hub activation

Hi. Changing new router PW etc sounds  good but I actually haven't got a clue what you mean how to do it.

I was hoping someone will tell ne should I have gotten an activation date or just swap it over and change all wifi pw on everything .

I can use tech but need step by step guide to actually alter something like a new routers pass code etc.

Unless you're moving moving from Superfast (FTTC) to Ultrafast (G.fast)? I thought the SR204 couldn't handle VDSL! Still, if that was the case (which is probably unlikely these days) one would have a date for a possible master socket change.

Re: New hub activation

Thanks for the responses @Skull+Treaty and @Chrisee. I bit the bullet and pugged the new one in and guess what, it worked. Computers and phones a cinch but it then took a 30 min call, amazingly answered very quickly, to a Sky tech to get the Q box and mini box to reset as despite following the online instructions nothing happened. But all good now.
