My Virgin broadband is being removed on 2 September.

I have arranged to have sky fitted 1st September have I made a mistake with the dates  or will the sky engineers remove virgin.

You will need to contact virgin seperately to cancel with them leaving an overlap between the 2 services in case of any delay with openreach instaliing your sky line . Neither Openreach or sky have the authority to remove any physical cabling belonging to another network

As @cookiemonsteruk indicates, a move from Virgin to Sky isn't a 'switch' under the Ofcom-mandated system. When both ISPs are on the Openreach network then the same cabling infrastructure is used, but Virgin installs and owns its coaxial cable, which no other ISP has access to.
