@emryan

That's unusual, but not unknown.  Unfortunately it's yet another way of developers leveraging ongoing income by taking a percentage of the  payment.

Re: New build connections

@emryan In the new build, do you have a BT ONT box in a cupboard near the electrics?

Re: New build connections

We have not moved in yet, but have been told the fibre connection to the house has to be connected by one of 2 companies and then they will handle the sky contract

That would be where those companies subsidised the optical installation.  Be aware that they may not have Sky on their list of available ISPs though.

Re: New build connections

@emryan You see, I asked because we moved into a new build home and both virgin and openreach were installed right to the property - hence FTTP.

Openreach popped in their ONT box and virgin left about 3/4 cables in the cupboard for when their engineer comes and connects it up properly. (For which I will never go with virgin media, so it can be left as is.) Just my 2 cents.

However, the developer should be so inclined to have openreach install this in the development to ALL houses in the first place as a prerequisite of development facilities planning - i.e. Gas, water, internet, sewage, etc.
