New WiFi Max is slow

We have today upgraded to the WiFi Max router and it keeps dropping signal as is generally slower than my old router

@Alex888 you had a Sky Broadband hub which supported Q boxes allowing the Q boxes to act as WiFi repeaters for your devices to connect to  rather than the hub if it was closer. The new Sky Max hub cannot do that which is probably why the WiFi coverage in your home is lnot as good. The Q mini probably used to connect via the old hub but now is having go connect to the more distant main Q box which is why it is struggling.

Sky agents dont explain that there are pros and cons to be upgrading to the new hub but as you probably bought the WiFi Max add-on as part of the upgrade Sky will supply pod extenders if asked to improve wifi for your tird party devices and a different booster to improve the Q minis connection. This seems a lot of hassle and personally I would reject the new hub and go back to your old set up. Itvdhould need to affect the broadband connection tomthe hub.

@Alex888 can you confirm what old router you had and that the new hub is in the same position? Do you have Sky Q boxes ? When you ssy "dropping signal" do you mean devices lose WiFi connection or yhe hub's leds indicate it has lost connection tonthe line ( see https://www.sky.com/help/articles/hub-lights-explained-start)?

The answers will help forum memberscto advise you.

Re: New WiFi Max is slow

Hi @Chrisee

Not sure the model of the old router but it looks exactly the same as the new Max unit but it was black instead of the new white design.

Plugged directly into the FTTP port in exactly the same position as the previous router.

Since the install yesterday, WiFi on our phones and laptops drop randomly. Plus the signal is so poor now that the Mini Box is freezing and loosing audio. I appreciate the Minibox communicates via the Main box but it can't be a coincidence that this has occurred only since the new Max router was plugged in.
