New User Sky Broadband

Hi I'm a new user of Sky, I have ordered a broadband package Sky Full Fibre Gigafast. However, I just moved in to my new house (I'm student btw) and in this house already a router from Rebel. When I order, I did not mentioned that there was a router already in my house. So my question is, instead of buying a new router from Sky,  can I use the existing router? I try to contact Customer Suppor of Sky to explain this but I cannot find them. Please need help

A couple of points…

If you are new to the forum or this is your first post then welcome to the Community, which is predominantly made up of Sky customers helping other Sky customers. You aren’t talking to Sky by posting here.

Is your address rented accommodation? If it is have you checked with your landlord that they permit you to have any necessary work done in order to provide the service?

With Sky you don't buy routers, they are loaned to you for the duration of your subscription.

Has the previous tenant / occupant accidentally left that router. The company may well chase them for it so don't throw it away.

The image shows an ONT not a router.

@Kukuhbayu69

That's not a router: it's an Openreach Optical Network Terminal (sometimes referred to as a 'fibre modem') which converts signal from light to electricity.

To have FTTP broadband delivered to the address on the national Openreach network, the ISP router connects to the ONT via an ethernet cable.

Sky Broadband won't use a router branded by Rebel, and there's no additional charge for the loan of the Hub from Sky.

Re: New User Sky Broadband

Hi @Daniel0210 thank you for your warm welcome. Yes, you are correct, I'm a tenant who rent an accomodations here, and my landlord allow me to set up a new wifi. From the email sky sent to me, they will activate remotely and do not need an engineer come.

I thought that the thing I shared on tye pic is router.

So, the sky team will loand me a router, I only need to set up on my house, once they activate it. The wifi will work, am I correct?

@Kukuhbayu69

Hubs for new activations are normally dispatched via Royal Mail to arrive a 'few days' prior to the 'activation date'.

Once it has been dispatched you should be able to track it through Royal Mail. The postman/woman will usually leave it hidden if no one is in. You shouldn't need to sign for it.

They should also pop a card through the letterbox telling you where it was left and the tracking should show some information on it too.

Re: New User Sky Broadband

Hi @TimmyBGood I'm so sorry I didn't get it. Means that the sky team will loan me a router based on my contract, and it will send to my address, am I correct?

And when the router arrives, I need to set up by myself, could you please explain more, I'm totally confused 😕

Many thanks

That's correct, yes, as long as Sky is provisioning the circuit over the Openreach infrastructure.
