New Sky Max and pods. How many mini boxes work?

Hiya all,

Want to get new Sky Max router. Have complicated house size with brick internal walls. Have sky q 2tb box, 4 minis and a booster box. Engineer said 7 things was most network can mesh. Do the max pods work like the booster box?  I.e. am I tied to having only one pod?  I want to actually get the best coverage inside home.  Have got ultrafast fibre plus 500mb. Thanks for your time people

@nickolm8837  If you have Sky Q then just now you will not be able to get the new router as it does not work with Sky Q.

If someone has helped give them Like.

@nickolm8837

The Max Hub is not currently compatible with Q television boxes, and Sky will not offer Max to Q households at this time.

Sky have said they will loan up to three pods with a Max Hub (but only after a 'wireless engineer' visit) : earlier Sky wireless booster hardware will not work.

Thanks for the info @TimmyBGood  and @Highlinder. That is disappointing it is yet to work with the 2tb. So frustrating. Will plod along and see if an sky engineer can come and check system again.

Re: New Sky Max and pods. How many mini boxes work?

We have Sky Q multi room (so Q booster boxes as they call them) plus the Router. Ours is an extended end of terrace 3 bedroom home ... we are an adult family of 4 all wanting wifi connection. Now that is where the problem lies ... first visit by engineer said we have too many things (devices) attached to the internet via ethernet ??? (PC Printer TVs Stream boxes Game boxes etc etc) ...  so why do they say this if they all need ethernet connection and only use it when it needs service updates etc. They then said take offline as many as we can, which defeats the idea of having them in the first place. Second visit they installed an extender  booster upstairs but did say this will not actually give us better connection - it just makes the wifi signal more available to connect with... ?? (what does that even mean?) we just want a reliable wifi service - is that really too much to ask?

They did say as he left we can have a maximum of 2 in the home but try 1 first.

We still got bad link up across the family so I bought a second one from Amazom and fitted it, then I find out that from research that the wifi will actually be reduced by up to 50% now that we have 2 extender boosters... and we should have bought plug in the wall pods instead. Cant win can we? .. seems to me they need to build a better Router in the first place ... one with multi ariels maybe.

We never had any of this usage problem when we were with BT with 2 Sky+ boxes (yes we had 2 extenders with them as well) and I will be going back as soon as this Sky agreement comes to an end. We need the connection like all homes do - not 100's of tv channels that no one wants to flick through to try find something to watch. Now they offer Max for £0 which we cant use anyhow .... at least once a week we get really poor connection for about 7-8 hours (usually a Wed) - yet online it says we are "Good".  Sorry but I just do not now believe the hype anymore. Wish I never changed last year if being honest when we did a home budget review due to the high Heatings costs. Only 7 more months to go until the end of the 18 month period. Cant wait.

@Sidspurs at some point the Sky Max wbifi system will work with Sky Q but Sky have not said when at a guess now it will be in 2024.

With the older Sky Q compatable hubs there is a practical maximum number of nodes the system can support which is around 8 you need to count the Sky hub, the main Q box, Sky minis and Sky boosters in thst number. Often if you are close to that number removing boosters increases performance which msy sound counter indicative but is correct..

Improving the backhaul connection between a node and the hub by using a direct ethernet connection or a system like powerline adapters can greatly improve performance of both the TV service and the wifi speed the node can supply.

When I had Sky Q myself I found directly connecting the main Q box by ethernet and the most distant Q mini by powerline greatly improved the WiFi speeds throughout my 3 level home which is pretty wifi unfriendly.

Re: New Sky Max and pods. How many mini boxes work?

So if I read you right ensure one is Ethernet connected and the other with a plug in node.

Trouble is the main Q box is in a room with no Ethernet without having a lead from the next room hub which would be around 10 meters and all over the carpet.
that then would be the one we would have to connect a wall plug node to.

the other Q (the second unit) is connected with Ethernet which is coming from the router in the room adjoining that

would that work in your solution?
