New Router giving poor performance against predecessor

I have just changed from an ancient talk talk router to a new sky router. This is hardwired into my Skyq box, the WiFi performance for all household items is now very poor and sometime you have to wait 15 to 20 seconds for a website to load. All of this worked perfectly with the prior rooter. I am inclined to cancel my subscription and return to Talk Talk unless a resolution can be found quickly. Please advise remedy
