New Openreach fibre optic cable
Has anyone experienced a changeover from old (BT) cable connections for broadband to the new Openreach fibre optic cables? What should I be aware of in order to make the changeover without impacting on my Sky broadband service? How do I prepare? Do I have to contact Sky?

Yes, somewhere around fifteen million households. Note the old coppy cables are Openreach too: 'BT' is an ISP in competition with Sky.

There's inevitably some impact.
How do I prepare? Do I have to contact Sky?
An order must be placed through an ISP: nothing happens otherwise.

Re: New Openreach fibre optic cable
Hi Thanks for the link.
It mentions the Optical Network Terminal. But it says they - Sky - will fit one. However, there is confusing information out there, not helped by the flat management company not providing clear information on what Openreach will actual do.
I have seen online information that says Openreach will install the ONT. If that is the case will I just be able to unplug from the old socket and plug it ionto the new? Or do Sky have to get involved? Will they need to send an engineer (costing how much?) or can they simply test my new connection remotely after I have switched over?

Re: New Openreach fibre optic cable
@SheffieldTyke As you mention flat, that is an MDU type fibre, if already done by OR then Fibre will be sitting outside in a junction box above your main entry door. Check the BTW site it will say if Fibre is there or not! Use the Address checker, 2nd box top left click on it all the fields change, enter all as required and it will tell you the state off play!

Re: New Openreach fibre optic cable
Perhaps note that in flats the individual residents have rather less choice, because Openreach needs to negotiate with the freeholder.
