Hello,
Sorry for maybe a silly question but does anyone know how I can encourage Sky to set up a connection for our house for WiFi. Properties in the street behind have it.
We brought a persimmon home and have FibreNest WiFi as that was all we can have and it's expensive for what it is and isn't very good. We usually have a Sky package and the best deals include broadband.
Thanks for any help,
Mac

Could you enter your full address below and post the table after removing your address from the image

Said companies share the same hq address and residents have previously been able to claim restrictive trade practices (as far as i am aware) to allow them the move to sky

Unfortunately my reading of the above is if the developer doesn't allow wayleave for Openreach then there's a fundamental problem.

Thanks, I did try the link above and it said 'we cannot determine broadband availability at this location. This may be a new address to which connectivity is not yet complete'.
Would it be worth speaking to Sky to see if I can get put on some kind of list to get broadband installed?

With the availability checker results that would be an openreach decision as to whether its worth the time and money to build a network where you live

Find out more@Macauley1 if you read the article @TimmyBGood liked you will see that Persimmons effectively blocks Openreach installing connections until after the estate gets handed over to the LA which can be a few years after your home was built. Sky have no control over that process.

Thanks all, yes that is frustrating. But it seems that parts of new the estate both Phases 1 & 2 (built after 2018, which the article links too) have open reach installed. Phase 3 which we have brought on are nearing completion so maybe there is some sort of plan in the works.

Persimmons use their own network to supply internet in their new builds and you will be tied into an exclusive service with them for anything up to 10 years
you will need to check your property documentation to find out how long you have to stick with them for and they will not allow any other networks access until that time is up

My understanding is strictly speaking that's not the case: if other ISPs could actually reach the address to provide service then there's nothing in an individual Persimmons contract with a home purchaser to prevent their use. That's what makes this practice so insidious.
The fundamental issue is that where a developer retains ownership of the roadway, pavement and ducts they can place significant legal and financial obstacles in the way of Openreach to the point where the properties become non-commercial for provisioning on the national network.

What service providers would I have had access to if FibreNest wasn’t being installed?
Installing FibreNest’s full fibre to the home infrastructure is the only approach that enables the Persimmon Group to guarantee that ultrafast, highly reliable broadband connectivity will be available to its customers in their new homes. This is because housing developers do not have control over the type of connection ordinarily delivered by broadband infrastructure providers and therefore there is a risk that the quality of the connection delivered may be substandard. We do recognise however that not having more established broadband providers to choose from may be unusual for some customers.
Should your development have received full-fibre broadband service from an alternative infrastructure operator (e.g. Openreach), then similarly, most well-known internet service providers would not have been available to you. This is because, unlike with traditional broadband delivered over copper telephone lines, most well-known internet service providers are actually currently unable to provide their services over full-fibre infrastructure.
For most customers this means that, with the exception of BT, only a small number of less commonly known providers which are able to provide their services over this new full-fibre infrastructure would have been available to you. This also means that, unless you are currently a customer of one of these providers in your existing property, your service would not be transferable to your new home.
This situation would most likely apply regardless of which developer was constructing your new home, as the majority of new homes built today are typically being provided with full-fibre infrastructure.
