Need to be within a couple of metres to wifi router to connect

My wife will just drop out, and in order to connect again I have to take my devices within a couple of metres of the router for them to connect, which is a issue as my games consoles are in another room and just won't connect. It's say on the checker that everything is fine and there's no issues but I simply can't connect to my wifi from other rooms like I have been able to do for the past couple of years since I've had wifi
