My wifi

I wrote yesterday, my ip address is in public status need to change status to private

@Trisha143 That sounds like a setting in windows which defaults to public for new wifi connections as a safety measure. If you are at home and you are comfortable only people in your household know the wifi password you can safely change that to private.

 

Your hub  has to have a "public" IP address just as your home needs a postal address to receive mail. However the router has a firewall that prevents bad guys from accessing the devices on your home network.

 

The router issues private IP addresses to your devices and uses a system called Network Address Translation to allow your devices to contact the remote services you need. The system is secure the biggest risk is where you either disable the firewall or more likely click on a dodgy link thst runs a trojan that does that which is why running a good internet security suite is so important.
